Pier Information: This pier is very different from all of the other piers I have been to.
There is a lot to do here, you can go shopping, check out the aquarium or stop for a lunch break at one of the many nice restaurants located inside the building at the end of the pier.
If you want to do something with your wife and kids this is the pier to go to.
It works out great for the whole family, you and the kids can go fishing while your wife enjoys her day shopping ( that's if she doesn't like to fish ) but either way it's a fun place to be regardless what you decide to do on the pier.
Another cool thing about this pier is at the bait shop you can feed the pelicans. This costs $5.00 for a bucket of 5 fish and is always a favorite of kids and tourists.
Fishing from the St Pete Pier is excellent, the waters of Tampa Bay hold all kinds of big fish. Many black drum are caught from this pier, use shrimp or blue crabs for best results when fishing for these fish.
Most of the other fish are caught using shrimp and various other live and frozen baits.
Heavy tackle is not needed when fishing from here, a good set up is a medium sized rod and reel. The fishing areas are low to the water so you will not have to pull the fish up very far.
